As you are probably already aware, your tyres are the only component of your car that is in physical contact with the road. So ensuring that they are road worthy is of paramount importance. The first thing you should check for on your tyres is the depth of tread remainging on them. Most new tyres start with around 8mm of tread. The minimum legal requirement is 1.6mm, however we reccommend to have your tyres changed if they are below 3mm. The reason why is that a car fitted with tyres with a tread depth of 8mm will take 25 metres to stop at a speed of 40mph, while a car fitted with tyres with a tread depth of only 3mm will take 37metres to come to a stop. That's more than 3 cars distance.
